Co-op provides an opportunity for students to live and work in areas of Canada or even other countries they might not otherwise get to know. In 1998, the average salary paid to co-op students in engineering was close to $9,800 for a four month work term. That means students may earn from $49,000 to $59,000 while obtaining their B.Eng. degree. Thus, UVic engineering students largely eliminate student loan debts.
