ECE Undergraduate Program Modification Review Process

General ECE review procedures

Under normal circumstances the review process in ECE Department will take approximately two weeks. If a request is time sensitive, please allow at least three weeks before the monthly deadline (usually the first Thursday of the month) for requests to be tabled in the Student Program Committee (SPC) agenda.

Only the changes specified by the student in a program modification request will be reviewed. A request generally does not deal with multiple requests at once, or represent a complete program approval for the duration of degree completion. Any missing information will not be completed or assumed on behalf of the student, and therefore may delay the complete review process.

In order to accommodate future calendar changes, as well as future student changes, the program modification review process will normally carry through to a maximum of 3 terms or 12 months. Projection of program sequence beyond this time frame will be considered subject to calendar changes and will be subject to re-review.

The review process assumes that any non-declared or declared out of sequence courses are pre-requisite conflict free. Pre-requisite waivers therefore must be submitted in addition to the program modification request.

The ECE Department cannot review program modification requests that are not submitted on an official form created by the Engineering Undergraduate office and relative to the current calendar year.

Requests for course substitutions

Core course replacement/exchange requests must always be reviewed by the ECE Department, whether or not courses are noted as exchangeable within the UVic calendar. The Faculty of Engineering allows only a few course substitutions; outside Faculty substitutions do not apply to ECE degree programs and will not fulfill core courses within an ECE degree program.

• CSC 340 denied as a course substitution for core course CSC 349A
• Seng 310 or any third year designated course, denied as substitution for a 4th year technical elective
• Ceng 241 exchange denied for CSC 355
