SPC Product Codes
These very simple SPC product codes can perform well provided either (or both) d and n increase.
The disadvantage of these codes is the blocklength becomes very large, very quickly for a fixed code rate.
The structure of the code has some nice properties, however compared to turbo codes it has too many low weight codewords. This adversely affects performance at low SNR. This desire to reduce the number of low weight codewords has led to the introduction of randomly interleaved (RI) SPC product codes.
