The VHF Marine Transceiver that was used in the buoy system is shown on the left.
Because transmission was done at a licensed frequency band, a license had to be obtained from Industry Canada. The frequency that the buoy is licensed to transmit at is 164.8200 MHz. Therefore, the VHF Marine Transceiver had to have one of its channels manually tuned to this frequency. Once this was complete, the transceiver does not need to be tuned again.
The standard antenna was removed so it could be connected to the buoy's VHF antenna. The microphone jack was used to connect to the electronics system.
