CONVERTER DESIGN


The ZVT-PWM DC/DC Boost Converter consists of a standard PWM boost converter, a snubber cell used to implement soft-switching, and a control circuit which generates the pulse trains, and implements a feedback loop. 

 

A snubber cell is used in combination with a conventional PWM boost converter to decrease switching losses thus increasing efficiency.  The converters semiconductor devices are turned on and off under near zero voltage transition (ZVT) and / or zero current transition (ZCT).  Because of this, there are no additional voltage and current stresses on the main switch and main diode.  Additional benefits of this active snubber cell are its simple structure, relatively low cost, ease of control, and the stresses on the auxiliary components stay at allowable levels for operation.
