I love nature and the outdoors. Also, physical fitness is an important part of my life. In this regard, I enjoy activities such as inline skating, running, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and camping.
Music is one of my biggest passions in life. Although I am not especially musically talented, I still try to play a few musical instruments when I have the time/opportunity (which is usually just my guitar these days). If it were not for the fact that I have little musical talent, I probably would have become a musician instead of an engineer. I can play many musical instruments poorly including the piano and guitar. Nothing, however, can rival my singing voice. It's registered as a deadly weapon with at least three international law enforcement agencies. Here are some videos of me playing guitar:
- Bron-Yr-Aur (by Led Zeppelin)
- The intro to Crazy On You (by Heart)
- Is There Anybody Out There (by Pink Floyd)
What kind of music do I like best? My musical tastes are quite varied. I can find something that I like in almost any muscial genre (e.g., rock, alternative, blues, heavy metal, classical, baroque, folk)---well okay, except for country and opera. Some of the musicians, groups, and composers that I like include (in no particular order): The Tea Party, U2, Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, Metallica, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Staind, Alice in Chains, Live, The Smashing Pumpkins, GnR, Fuel, Genesis, The Doors, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Queen, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Matthew Good Band, Our Lady Peace, Eric Clapton, The Police, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, Boston, Bryan Adams (no relation to me), Blink 182 (although I hate to admit it :-), and J.S. Bach.
Things that I like include: Linux, LaTeX, CBC Newsworld, Duckman (the greatest cartoon of all time), X-Files (before David Duchovny left the show), This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Whose Line Is It Anyways?.
Things that I do not like include: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, CNN, reality television (reality, yeah right).
