TEXTBOOK AND LECTURE-SLIDE ERRATA ================================= This document contains errata for the following textbook and lecture slides: M. D. Adams, Signals and Systems (Edition 4.0) Jan. 2022. M. D. Adams, Lecture Slides for Signals and Systems (Edition 4.0) Jan. 2022. Below is a list of errors that have been reported to date. ################################################################################ Date: 2022-06-07 Name: Ben Parker Description: Textbook; p. 110; answer key for Exercise 4.24(b) The answer given in the answer key has some incorrect coefficients. The answer should be: y(t) = -e^{-t/2}-e^{-t/3} Solutions manual; p. 158; full answer for Exercise 4.24(b) The full answer also has similar typos. ################################################################################ Date: 2022-06-07 Name: Lauren Mark Description: textbook, p. 109, answer key entry for Exercise 4.19(j): The integral in the first case for the answer should have the limits 1 and t-1 (not 1 and t+1). solutions manual, p. 143, full solution for Exercise 4.19(j): The final formula for x*h(t) has the same error as in the answer key. That is, the integral in the first case in the final formula for x*h(t) should have the limits 1 and t-1 (not 1 and t+1). ################################################################################ Date: 2022-06-19 Name: Ben Coupland Description: textbook, p. 58, Example 3.33: The second line of the first equation in the solution has a superfluous subscript "1" that should be removed. The variable "x_1" should simply be "x". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-06-19 Name: Ben Coupland Description: lecture slides, slide 132, 2nd bullet item: There is an English error in this bullet item. The word "practice" should be "practical". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-07-06 Name: Kiana Darrell Description: solutions manual, p. 241, in the answer for Exercise 6.26(b): The sentence that reads We observe that X(ω) = 0 for |ω| < 1000π. should be changed to We observe that X(ω) = 0 for |ω| > 1000π. ################################################################################ Date: 2022-07-08 Name: Aman Palod Description: textbook, Chapter 2, page 10, Example 2.3, 6th line: The text "Similarly, since subtraction, multiplication, and division can also defined pointwise, the following relationships also hold" is missing the word "be" before the word "defined".  ################################################################################ Date: 2022-07-09 Name: Aman Palod Description: textbook, p. 435, Section 11.3, 11th line: The text "Sequences such these are of great practical interest, however." is missing the word "as" (before the word "these").  ################################################################################ Date: 2022-07-09 Name: Michael Adams Description: textbook, p. 151, 10th line: The sentence on this line is missing the word "as" after the word "such". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-07-31 Name: Ben Coupland Description: lecture slides, slide 282, first bullet: The text "i..e.," should be "i.e.,". In other words a bogus period should be removed. ################################################################################ Date: 2022-11-15 Name: Zakariya Khan Description: Textbook, p. 216, line 15: The text reads: "... 1) overlap or, 2) not overlap. These two cases are illustrated in Figures 6.39(b) and 6.39(c), respectively ..." The overlap case is covered in Figure 6.39(c), not (b). So, either the word "respectively" should be removed, or the figures should be listed in the opposite order. ################################################################################ Date: 2022-11-16 Name: Karan Gosal Description: textbook, p. 228, Exercise 6.35(h): The answer key has a typo. It is missing a minus sign in front of \omega. solutions manual, full solution for same question as above: It also turns out that the solutions manual has a similar typo. The last two lines of the full solution are missing similar minus signs. ################################################################################ Date: 2022-12-05 Name: Ella Palter Description: solutions manual, Exercise 7.10(d): In the last line of the solution, has an incorrect left-hand side. In particular, "X(s)" should be "x(t)". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-12-06 Name: Hudson Showalter Description: textbook, p. 294, Section 7.16.1, 1st paragraph: In a sentence in the last paragraph on page 294 in section 17.16.1, there is a sentence that reads " For example, in a simple heating/cooling thermostat system, the reference input would be temperature setting on the thermostat wall control and the output would be the actual room temperature". This instance is missing a "the'', and should instead read " For example, in a simple heating/cooling thermostat system, the reference input would be THE temperature setting on the thermostat wall control and the output would be the actual room temperature". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-12-06 Name: Hudson Showalter Description: textbook, p. 415, last sentence of Section 10.6: There is a bug on page 415 in the very last sentence of section of 10.6. The sentence reads "Some of the constants appearing the formulas associated with these properties differ by a factor of N relative to their Fourier-series counterparts".  The sentence should instead read  "Some of the constants appearing IN the formulas associated with these properties differ by a factor of N relative to their Fourier-series counterparts". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-12-06 Name: Hudson Showalter Description: textbook, p. 540, Section 12.8.11, 1st sentence: There is a sentence that reads "The ROC R' of Y must contain |z| > 1 in order to ensure that infinite series encountered above converges". The sentence should read "The ROC R′ of Y must contain |z| > 1 in order to ensure that THE infinite series encountered above converges". That is, the word "the" is missing. ################################################################################ Date: 2022-12-06 Name: Hudson Showalter Description: textbook, p. 556: In the first sentence of section 12.13.1: The sentence reads "From Theorem 9.8, we know that, a LTI system is causal if its impulse response is causal". There is a comma added after the word "that", which should not be present in the sentence. The sentence should instead be written as "From Theorem 9.8, we know that a LTI system is causal if its impulse response is causal". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-12-06 Name: Hudson Showalter Description: textbook, page 9, in section 2.4 on the second last line of the page: There is a sentence that reads "This is due to the fact that preceding equation is precisely how the addition of functions is defined". Instead, the sentence should be written as "This is due to the fact that THE preceding equation is precisely how the addition of functions is defined". ################################################################################ Date: 2022-12-06 Name: Hudson Showalter Description: textbook, page 11, in section 2.5, on the first line of the page: There is a sentence that reads "This is due to the fact that preceding equation is precisely how the multiplication of sequences is defined". The sentence should instead read "This is due to the fact that THE preceding equation is precisely how the multiplication of sequences is defined. ################################################################################ Date: Name: Description: ################################################################################
